Thoughts on theology and love

Question to pose:
-How much of your/my definition of hell ia shaped by culture or by the Bible? ((ex: Hell is translated by Jesus as an actual place in Jerusalem (translated Gehenna referring to The Valley of Hinnom, (2 Kings 23:10)) where there was child sacrifice by fire. It was later turned into a dump because of its reputation/significance where dogs would whine and hit their teeth together when fighting over the scraps (weeping and gnashing of teeth). To rid of the waste, it was set to fire that never burned out. When Jesus referred to Hell (all times: Gehenna) he was referring to an actual place.)) (Jesus Wants to Save Christians III, Rob Bell, Mars Hill Bible Church) (www.mhbcmi.org/listen)

Thoughts on love:

Rob Turner at Apex Community Church, Kettering, OH. (www.apexcommunity.netlast night spoke on Rev. 2:1-7, The letter to Ephasus. He talked about how they had "lost their first love."
I lost my phone that day. this message hit home.
However, I was challenged on other levels. What is the balance of loving God and loving others, particularly, your spouse.  Though it seems that you aren't supposed to love anything/anyone as much as God, how does that actually compare to the love you give to a spouse? If that relationship was a possibility of becoming your first love, why does God never mention the danger of it, but rather, he says Husbands, love your wife like Christ loves the church. He compares His love for us with a husbands love for his wife. Also, the first and greatest commandment goes hand in hand with the second. Love God, and love others.
When meditating on it after, I feel like the Holy Spirit told me that we can love God and love our spouse. God gives us that love relationship to reveal to us a depth of love He has for us that we could only understand in a husband/wife relationship...and the same goes for having children. I now have the perspective that God gives us those relationships for His purpose to show us a dimention of his intimacy and love that we might not otherwise understand. So, he uses those people for his purposes of knowing us better. It's ok to love your husband/wife/children with an intense love that surpasses all other earthly relationships, as long as you are also loving God and using your spouse to both grow together in your quest to know Him. That should be the ultimate end.  Sometimes for people my age, it can be flip-flopped, where God is seen as the means to the end in finding that special someone. From an outside perspective of being unmarried, all of this may seem fundamental to those who are, but i think its healthy to think about now in dating relationships where you see that relationship as having this ultimate end.

Again, maybe another fundamental truth, but something that is starting to sink from my head into my heart.

I had a really hard past couple days. i'm not sure i want to get into it on xanga, but the Lord blessed me with a wonderful day today. I went on a motorcylce ride this afternoon. here are the stats i recieved back.

distance: 23 miles

max speed: 80mph

amount riden with arms spread out: from the moment I gave you the idea on.

cows: too many to count

freaky bridges: 1

gallons of gas: 1/2

authors recommended: David Malin DD, PT "Visceral Manipulation", Ellen

Cutler N.A.E.T.

I also went golfing. first game of the year! ok, so i was like 10 (or more) over par the first 9 so i pretty much suck, but i had a few good drives, hits, puts. this is only the beginning of GOLF SEASON. it really was a good day. skipped classes and chapel, kinda had a "personal day" as i call it.

when you sit back and evaluate your life, think of the things that really matter. the people you really love. if one of those things was taken away from you, all unimportant things seem to disappear. when you get the sense to write someone a letter, to say a prayer for them during the day, or just to give a hug, encouraging word, or tell them you love them, DO IT. it might be the Holy Spirit's prompting. if you don't track on that spiritual talk, it might be your "inner voice" or "conscience" or heart talking. but when you get that still small feeling, voice, sense...listen. you might not get another chance to respond.

ok past due for another entry. i'm gonna try to make it quick cuz no one likes to read long entries. i had an AMAZING weekend skiing up in Boyne. I was proud of my achievements. I went down a huge black diamond twice (first time i fell and almost died so i had to conquer it). First night out, I almost killed my little 50 lb. year old cousin going off a trick jump. i landed but then took her out. CrAzY. it was great to see the fam again!

soo...heartsong. well, we're recording our cd in the studio now, and traveling almost every weekend. we sang in chapel last week and i sang again this week too. i struggle trying to find an appropriate way to respond to compliments. i don't want to take praise for myself, because i know its not about me and God gave me the gift anyway. i pray the Lord always keeps me humble.

i put pics of the singing competition up on facebook. i finally got my camera cord.
